Portugal to host special ERC day

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon will head to Lisbon next week for a special day focusing on the European Research Council.

The president of the ERC will be joined by Portugal’s Secretary of State for Science, Leonor Parreira, and the President of Portugal’s Foundation for Science and Technology, Miguel Seabra.

Attendees will hear from four successful ERC grantees, including two double winners. Although the final speakers are yet to be announced, one talk will focus on securing both a Starting and Consolidator Grant in Life Sciences, whilst another will centre on a Starting Grant and Proof of Concept Grant, also in Life Sciences. The audience will also hear from a winner of an Advanced Grant in Physical Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics, and a Consolidator Grant in Social Sciences and Humanities.

The half-day conference will be held in the capital, Lisbon, on 25 September 2014. The event comes after the news that that Portugal’s nomination for the next College of Commissioners, Carlos Moedas, is expected to be the next European commissioner for research, science and innovation.
