Consultation on FET future direction

A new discussion on the outlook of Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) has been launched by the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS).

The consultation is asking scientists to post their thoughts on new ways of undertaking future technological research. Prospective ideas are split into nine topic areas, including Ecological technology, Nano-optomechanical technologies and Global Systems Science.

CORDIS has so far received more than 160 opinions and scientists have until the end of the week to contribute their ideas.

FET, which will form part of the Excellent Science pillar in Horizon 2020, is composed of three key initiatives focused on long-term, pioneering research. These comprise FET-Open, a ‘roots-up’ approach tackling the long-term challenges in Europe; FET-Proactive, a ‘top-down’ research approach responding to evolving societal and industrial needs; and FET-Flagships, ambitious large scale, science-driven, research initiatives.
