Androulla Vassiliou congratulates UK on MSCAs success

The European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, said the UK was the largest beneficiary of the Marie Curie Actions under FP7, helping 941 UK researchers, along with a further 4,400 foreign researchers who came to the UK to work. She said the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions under Horizon 2020 would promote the “quality, employability and mobility” of researchers in Europe.

Adding her thoughts on the European Institute for Innovation and Technology, which will be heavily expanded under Horizon 2020, she said the organisation would “create Europe’s entrepreneurs of tomorrow.” Vassiliou also thanked David Willetts, UK Universities and Science Minister, for his support and confidence in the further development of the EIT.

The first calls under the MSCAs were launched in December 2013, whilst the first proposals for the EIT’s new Knowledge and Innovation Communities are expected in the spring.
