IR Prize nominations available

The Innovation Radar (IR) is an initiative supported by the European Commission to identify and recognise key innovators in FP7, CIP and Horizon 2020 projects.

Through the initiative, 40 of the best EU-funded projects have been identified to compete with each other for the Innovation Radar Prize 2016.

The commission is inviting votes from the public to select 16 finalists from these 40. The final will then be contested and the result announced at the ICT proposers’ day in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 26 September 2016.

Voting is open throughout August with nominations coming from SMEs, university teams, spin-offs and start-ups from across Europe.

European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society Günther H Oettinger said: “The Innovation Radar is detecting an impressive number of compelling projects and breakthrough achievements which deserve to shine a spotlight on them.

“I am therefore delighted to launch the Innovation Radar Prize 2016. Competing for it are 40 of the best innovators, identified by Innovation Radar, who have been developing great innovations with EU-funded projects. They have the potential to impact everything from transport logistics to water management to treatment of cancer patients to even the management of bee populations.”

Four finalists will be selected from four categories, which are Excellent Science, Horizon 2020 ICT Innovator, Industrial and Enabling Tech, and ICT for Society.

The inaugural prize was awarded to BroadBit, a cleantech battery developer based in Slovakia, during ICT 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal.
