ITRE to vote on EU-Ukraine science co-operation extension

The European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) will vote next week on whether to renew the agreement on science and technology co-operation between the EU and Ukraine.

The item is one of several on the agenda as MEPs attend the committee meeting next Monday in Brussels. ITRE is also due to vote on a co-operation deal between the EU and Morocco regarding the Union’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).

MEPs will hear from Director General of DG Research & Innovation, Robert-Jan Smits, who will provide an update on the state of play and implementation of Horizon 2020. Similar details will also be provided by the European Commission concerning COSME.

Members will also debate the establishment and operation of a market stability reserve for the EU’s greenhouse gas emission trading scheme and an amendment to the Directive 2003/87/EC, ‘Establishing a scheme for greenhouse gas emission allowance trading within the Community’. Furthermore, MEPs will be given a debriefing following a visit by a committee delegation to the 9th Meeting of Internet Governance Forum in Istanbul, Turkey during September 2014.
