Intel highlights H2020 involvement

Intel is taking part in seven research projects as part of Horizon 2020, it has been revealed.

The multinational chip manufacturer and computer innovation firm made the disclosure during the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco in California, United States, where the firm also announced its investment plans for 5G technology.

The firm is participating in seven projects in total. Intel is co-ordinating the ‘Flexible and efficient hardware/software platforms for 5G network elements and devices’, or Flex5GWare project, which aims to deliver the hardware and software that is needed to realise ‘a smooth transition from 4G mobile wireless systems to 5G’, according to the European Commission. The Research and Innovation action ICT project runs between 2015 and 2017 and is receiving nearly €8m of funding from the Commission under Horizon 2020.

The firm is also participating in six other Horizon 2020 ventures; all projects are part of the 5G Infrastructure contractual public private partnership.

During the event in the USA, Intel also announced it is working with Nokia Networks in the area of 5G to realise a test bed to demonstrate new technology.
