Mertin re-elected as Photonics21 head

Michael Mertin has been re-elected as the president of the European Technology Platform (ETP) Photonics21 for a second term.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of stakeholders during the middle of November. Photonics21 represents more than 1,100 European photonics companies and related research organisations. The Key Enabling Technology is seen as key to the Union’s future prosperity and an essential element to many industrial sectors.

Commenting on his re-election, Mertin said: “I thank the members of Photonics21 for their trust and confidence and am determined to continue advancing this matter in the next two years.”

The Photonics21 ETP was founded in 2005 and adopted a seven-year roadmap in 2013 to encourage greater R&D. Mertin also serves as the chief executive of Jenoptik, a German-based optoelectronics group.
