Dublin prepares for major nanotech event

The Irish capital is making final preparations for a major conference on nanotechnology ahead of next month.

The ‘EuroNanoForum 2013’, which will be attended by Pan European Networks, will see 1,200 delegates from 50 countries discuss the future impact and innovations of the Key Enabling Technology (KET) on citizen’s lives. Companies set to be represented at the event include Intel, Nokia, Shell and the Max-Planck Institute.

Speaking to European Plastics News, the director general for research and innovation, industrial technologies in the European Commission, Herbert von Bose, said: “The conference showcases innovation as a driver of economic growth. New technologies arising from nanoscience and their applications are presented and potential new end products are discussed.”

Many new nanotechnology products are set to be showcased at the conference, which will take place at the Convention Centre in Dublin. The KET will receive funding under the Industrial Leadership pillar of Horizon 2020, with an estimated research budget of €3.7bn.

The conference will run between 18-20 June 2013 and will be part of a seven-day focus on the KET during ‘Nanoweek Ireland’.
