Cyprus tops list in research proposal submission

Cyprus has tendered the most number of research proposals to Horizon 2020, according to a new survey.

Data from the European Commission indicates that the EU member state submitted 850 research proposals; Luxembourg came second, having submitted 666.

Statistics also show that the University of Cyprus came 76th in securing research grants amongst institutions that applied.

In comments carried by website in-Cyprus, Constantinos Christofides, rector of the university, said: “Academic staff at the University continue to participate energetically in European research programmes for the year 2015.”

He also hinted that the public university could continue to build on the progress made.

In addition, data indicates that the University of Cyprus also made it into the top 100 of 4,000 research proposals that received funding up to December 2014.
