EIT launches KIC climate competition

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is beginning a search for commercial solutions to the effects of climate change.

Twelve European start-up companies will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a jury of entrepreneurs, financiers and business people on innovative methods of reducing the effects of climate change.

The Climate Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) locations in France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK will then choose two start-ups that can take part in the Climate-KIC Venture competition taking place at its innovation festival in Wroclaw, Poland, during October.

The EIT will see a significant funding boost under Horizon 2020 and the development of six new KICs, as well as further development of the existing climate, ICT and energy KICs.
