EU Commissioner on innovation mission to Paris

The European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation is travelling to Paris this week for talks discussing innovation and investment, as well as a meeting with the French Prime Minister.

On Monday, Carlos Moedas is participating in a breakfast meeting discussing innovation with stakeholders, followed by press activities with Emmanuel Macron, France’s Minister of the Economy, Industry and the Digital Sector. The commissioner will also deliver a speech at the i7 Conference, engage in talks with Ambroise Fayolle, vice-president of the European Investment Bank, and visit the Pasteur Institute (a not-for-profit, private health research and teaching centre) and the Louis Vuitton Foundation (an art and culture centre).

On the second day of his visit, Moedas will take part in a breakfast meeting discussing research with universities, followed by a signing ceremony on a deal between European Investment Fund and BPI France. He will also participate in a roundtable event with the country’s Minister of State for the Digital Sector, Axelle Lemaire.

The Commissioner will hold talks with Manuel Valls, Prime Minister of France, in the afternoon and will attend a hearing before the Commissions of European Affairs of the French National Assembly and the Senate. Moedas will then attend a dinner engagement at the Cercle de l’Industrie, described as “exchange forum for large industrial companies”.

On Wednesday, Moedas will join European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen for a working lunch with the laureates of the Nobel Prize in Brussels.

Next week, Moedas will meet with Marite Seile, Latvian Minister of Research and Education, and Rush D Holt, chief executive officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This will be followed by a mission to Lorraine, France, and then to Portugal. In his native country, he will deliver a keynote address at the FCT Science Spring Day at the New University of Lisbon, and an opening speech at the AQUASIS Forum on Innovation in Management of Water Supply and Sanitation Systems.
