GE buys KIC-backed firm

A company developing wind turbine technology has been acquired by multinational General Electric.

Blade Dynamics was successful in KIC InnoEnergy’s 2015 Innovation Projects call and is behind the ‘Advanced Wind Turbine Blade Technology Industrialisation’ venture. The technology is anticipated to change the blade manufacturing process, thus leading to a potential cut in the price of generating electricity using newer, larger wind turbines.

In comments carried by Blue & Green Tomorrow, KIC InnoEnergy’s chief technology officer for renewable technologies, Antoni Martinez, said: “The recognition by GE of the potential of Blade Dynamics is a great acknowledgement of the work that KIC InnoEnergy do in identifying and supporting talent in the field of sustainable energy.”

Meanwhile the chief executive of Blade Dynamics, Pepe Carnevale, expressed his gratitude to KIC InnoEnergy for their assistance.

The KIC scheme helps SMEs to develop their products and seeks ventures that can have an impact on the future of sustainable energy.
