Brussels selects bids to encourage scientific careers

The European Commission has announced the flash call results for a topic encouraging young people to embark on science-orientated careers.

The ‘Innovative ways to make science education and scientific careers attractive to young people’ topic received a total of 122 submissions, of which 60 were judged to be above the threshold. Funding worth €100,669,861 was requested by the applicants to the topic, though the total budget available from the Commission is just over €6.5m.

Brussels will now select and inform the winning project proposals, with the first grant agreements expected to be signed by August. The topic is part of the ‘Call for making science education and careers attractive for young people’, which is still accepting applications for the ‘EURAXESS outreach to Industry’ topic; it is understood that the final deadline date is 16 September 2015. The call has an overall budget of €8.9m and sits under the ‘Science with and for Society’ pillar of Horizon 2020.
