COST hosts ITS event

A conference in Žilina, Slovakia, aims to bring attention to the role of research organisations and accelerate the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) across Europe.

The conference will be co-organised between the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Association and the University of Žilina.

The aim of this event is to highlight the role of research organisations in providing evidence to the policy makers for shaping the right ecosystem in ITS, as well as to the role of industry and, in particular, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in delivering innovative, sustainable and interoperable solutions.

The entire conference will last for two days and will take place in the context of the new legal framework adopted by the European Union on 7 July 2010, to accelerate the deployment of the ITS across Europe.

According to the European Commission’s White Paper on Transport, new forms of mobility must be proposed for overcoming reliability, environmental safety and affordability issues towards sustainable solutions for the transport of people and goods.

Until now, advances in research and technology have significantly contributed to this recommendation by integrating multidisciplinary approaches, and addressing the fragmentation of knowledge in ITS.

However, the deployment of widely used ITS solutions is still lagging behind the expectations, both in terms of their sustainability and competitiveness, as well as integrating their socio-economic impact at regional, national and pan-European level.

The event will inform national research communities of COST’s activities and funding opportunities, and will showcase COST’s experiences and best practices.

The event will take place on 24 November, from 10:00 to 13:30 (UTC).
