EIT Digital launches new IoT courses

Leading European digital innovation and entrepreneurial education organisation EIT Digital has launched three new online Internet of Things (IoT) courses.

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) contributes to the objectives of Horizon 2020 by addressing societal challenges in a manner complementary to other initiatives in these areas.

The EIT courses are: Embedded Hardware and Operating Systems (EHOS); Automata and Behavioural Equivalences (ABE); and Architecting Smart Internet of Things-Devices.

Launched as part of the Internet of Things through Embedded Systems programme, the courses will be made available through the on the online education platform Coursera.

Martijn Klabbers, EIT Digital’s online education activity leader and project manager at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, said: “These courses provide students with the cutting-edge knowledge on Internet of Things and Embedded Systems. If you can complete these courses you have the capacity to become a master in embedded systems. Generally, such a master’s degree gives you access to world-renowned companies like ASML, NXP, Philips, Siemens, Nokia, etc.”

Klabbers went on to describe EHOS as a course that focuses on basic embedded systems on hardware and operating systems, and the foundations of the embedded systems and Internet of Things in general; ABE as a more theoretical course on system behaviour that aims to validate systems; and Architecting Smart Internet of Things-Devices as providing the practical introduction of Internet of Things, and can be used as a foundation for the other more technical and academic courses.

The courses on Coursera are offered by more than 140 institutes including Stanford University and Princeton University in the US; Eindhoven University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, University of London, UK, and Lund University in Sweden.

EIT Digital anticipates more courses on Coursera in the near future. A list of current EIT Digital courses on Coursera can be found here.
