Bourguignon prepares for address in Edinburgh
The President of the European Research Council will tonight deliver a high-profile lecture in Scotland on the importance of collaboration in science.
Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon will address academics and attendees at The Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) and will deliver ‘The MacCormick European Lecture’. The title of the lecture is ‘Diversity and Interdependence in Science and Europe, Centuries of Enrichment and Struggle’.
The lecture at the RSE was named after Sir Neil MacCormick in recognition of his contribution to Scottish and European politics and his international work for the RSE. Previous speakers in the lecture series include former European Commissioners Lord Chris Patten and Jan Figel; former UK permanent representative to the EU, Sir John Grant; former diplomat Lord John Kerr; and former President of Ireland, Professor Mary McAleese.
Before becoming head of the ERC, Bourguignon served as the first panel chair in mathematics for Starting Grants and was also director of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques in France between 1994 and 2013.
