Dingwell: Ireland to apply for more funding
The secretary general of the European Research Council has told an Irish broadcaster that the country is in an excellent position to apply for more European funding.
Professor Donald Dingwell made the comments to RTÉ whilst on a visit to Ireland. Speaking in an interview about Ireland’s research funding applications, Dingwell said: “There is room for growth. We can see Ireland has a success rate…in the mid-field. That means Ireland is looking at a healthy future and you can try to implement measures that will help to prepare and maintain the talent that you have in this country, or bring to this country, in order to be better positioned to receive finding in the future.”
He added that it was important to have a balance of funding across all research areas, including humanities and social sciences and that the European Research Council supported the careers of both newly-qualified and established researchers through the different grant applications schemes.
The secretary general was taking part in a public seminar, ‘How to Succeed with the European Research Council’, in Dublin.
