Nowotny to address Chinese World Economic Forum
A delegation from the European Research Council (ERC), headed by Professor Helga Nowotny, will take part in a major economic conference in China.
The ‘Annual Meeting of the New Champions’, also known as the ‘Summer Davos’, will take place in Dalian, China and is organised by the World Economic Forum. Nowotny will address delegates at this year’s conference, which is entitled ‘Meeting the Innovation Imperative’. The forum will run between 11 to 13 September 2013.
Speaking ahead of the conference, President Helga Nowotny said: “The ERC is looking forward to a fruitful interaction with its global partners in Dalian, China. We see this as an opportunity to reach out to other actors and raise our visibility beyond a more scientific audience.”
Accompanying Nowotny are Sir Tim Hunt and Alain Peyraube, members of the ERC Scientific Council, as well as six ERC grantees. Benefactors include Professor Hunt, a Nobel Prize laureate in Medicine, and Professor Peyraube, a Chinese linguist and expert in Chinese studies. Other grantees include researchers in nanomaterials, photonics, optics, health, ICT and energy storage.
Later this week, the ERC will give a press conference in the country focusing on the ERC’s work in funding frontier research and innovation.
