ERC to hold key debate at ICM conference
The European Research Council is preparing to host a range of events at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) conference in Seoul, South Korea.
The nine-day conference began on 13 August, and the ERC-oriented event will take place tomorrow. The event, entitled ‘Forum on R&D Programmes’, will include contributions from Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, ERC president, and the president of South Korea’s National Research Foundation (NRF), Dr Chung Min Keun. Dr Luiz Alves dos Santos of the ERC Executive Agency and Dr Soon Hyung Hong of the NRF will also attend, as well as ERC grantees Professor Anton Alekseev and Professor Ben Green.
During the course of the conference, flash-info sessions on the ERC have also been taking place. The short sessions present an outline of the main features of ERC funding schemes and opportunities, with ERC staff and grantees available to answer questions.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Dreams and Hopes for Late Starters’. ICM is the largest international congress in the mathematics community and is held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The conference runs until 21 August 2014.
