Paris calls for climate experiments
The City of Paris and Paris-based economic development and innovation agency Paris&Co have launched a call for experiments in innovative solutions to address climate change.
The French capital will deal with specific environmental challenges, according to Paris&Co, including heatwaves, flooding, and water scarcity in the Seine basin of Normandy. Parisians are therefore encouraged to implement solutions to help the city adapt.
Run by Paris&Co, the call for experiments aims to create projects capable of providing concrete solutions to these challenges as they emerge. Four main topics – cooling the city, saving water resources, strengthening social ties and adaptability of living areas and lifestyles – comprise the call, which represents a genuine opportunity for stakeholders to test their projects and business models at the city scale.
Albane Godard, who is responsible for the Paris&Co’s Urban Lab, said: “The assessment of the programme which we will lead will bring concrete elements for decision makers on the capacity of the tested solutions to improve the city’s resilience, limit the damages and preserve everyone’s quality of life facing this threat.”
Célia Blauel, Paris’ deputy mayor in charge of sustainable development, environment, water and the Local Climate and Energy Action Plan, said: “Launching a call for experiments dedicated to adaptation is one more proof of the city of Paris’ strong commitment in the fight against climate change and in the building of the city of tomorrow.”
Jean-Louis Missika, Paris’ deputy mayor in charge of urbanism, architecture, the Greater Paris project and economic development, added “We want the city to become a wide living lab to support innovation and meet the 21st century challenges.”
The city’s elected representatives will select the successful experiments alongside a committee of experts and partners (ADEME, Agence Parisienne du Climat, Eau de Paris, 100 Resilient Cities).
