African nutrition security backed by H2020
An international project between the EU and Africa focusing agriculture intensification has received funding from Horizon 2020.
The ‘Towards a long-term Africa-EU partnership to raise sustainable food and nutrition security in Africa’, or ‘PROIntensAfrica’, project is co-ordinated by the Dutch university and research centre Wageningen UR. The venture involves 23 partners in total, which is 15 partners from Europe and eight partners from Africa. The project is receiving just over €1m from the European Commission.
A launch event for the project took place in the Ghanaian capital Accra last month. In comments carried by CAAST-Net Plus, Mahama Ayariga, Ghana’s Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, said during the conference: “PROIntensAfrica is a laudable initiative that will help address some of the challenges facing the agricultural sector in Africa.”
The project runs until 2017.
