Bangladesh launches H2020 publicity campaign
The EU Ambassador to Bangladesh has said the Union is looking for the country to become an economic partner, rather than supplier, in an address to mark Europe Day 2015.
Pierre Mayaudon made the comments on Sunday at the Westin Hotel in the capital Dhaka, where he also cited the importance of Horizon 2020. Also discussed at the event was the ‘Multi-annual Indicative Programme’, which encourages development co-operation in the areas of food security, education and democracy between 2014 and 2020.
In comments carried by Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, the ambassador said: “This country deserves better than the image associated to low cost and cheap labour. This would do justice to the millions of actors of this silent revolution, which is gradually taking Bangladesh out of poverty.
“The creation of a new institution – the EU Business Council Bangladesh – aims at bringing forward Bangladesh from a status of supplier of garment to a fully-fledged economic partner.”
Mayaudon also cited the launch of a campaign to help increase the visibility of Horizon 2020. The ambassador commented: “We are convinced that it will accompany your country in bringing to reality two very inspiring visions: Digital Bangladesh and Blue Economy.”
The country’s Foreign Minister, Mahmood Ali, also addressed the event.
