EU and Macau step-up R&I collaboration

Delegates from the EU and Macau have agreed to increased co-operation in the area of research and innovation following a bilateral meeting.

The decision was taken last week at the 20th meeting of the European Union-Macau Joint Committee which took place on Friday and discussed relations between the two partners and opportunities for further collaboration.

Discussions saw the delegations from the EU and Macau approve the start of a new chapter in research and innovation collaboration as well as agree to encourage scientists and research bodies in Macau to participate in Horizon 2020.

The EU delegation was led by Ugo Astuto, the acting managing director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service, whilst the Macau deputation was led by the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Raimundo Rosário.

The meeting also saw an agreement to increase co-operation in the fields of legal training and innovation as well as praise for the collaboration between the Macau’s Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and DG Interpretation in the European Commission for the local training of qualified interpreters.
