EU prepared to make ‘every effort’
The European Commission is making every effort to encourage Israel to agree to participate in Horizon 2020.
According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, high-level Commission officials sent messages asking Israel to participate in the replacement for FP7 during a visit to the Middle Eastern country earlier this week.
Negotiations between Brussels and Israel have run into difficulties since the Commission published new guidelines during the summer stopping the distribution of EU funds to Israeli entities operating in the West Bank, Golan Heights and Gaza Strip. The new guidelines are set to come into force at the start of January 2014.
