German research centre to host Horizon 2020 event in New York
Panellists from both sides of the Atlantic will give their testimonials and discuss the different types of international co-operation available under Horizon 2020 on 12 March 2014 at an event at the German Center for Research and Innovation (GCRI).
The presentations will help address in detail the main elements of Horizon 2020, including content, types of activities funded, forms of participation and application procedures. International co-operation at the individual, collaborative or programme level will also be discussed.
Speakers include Dr James P. Gavigan, Minister Counselor and Head of the Research and Innovation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States of America, who will provide an overview of Horizon 2020. Dr Joann Halpern, director of the GCRI, will discuss Germany’s participation in the framework programme during her introductory remarks.
Gavigan and Halpern will be joined by Dr Paolo Boffetta, director of the Institute for Translational Epidemiology and associate director for Population Sciences at The Tisch Cancer Center at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He will provide a testimonial on the benefits of transatlantic co-operation, drawing upon his personal experience as a partner in the EU-funded CHANCES project (Consortium on Health and Ageing: Network Cohorts in Europe and the United States).
Dr Brian Gibney, Jacques Edward Levy Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Brooklyn College, will discuss his experience as a partner in the EU-funded PEPDIODE project, which focuses on peptide-based diode screening for solar cells. The project is a joint research effort between six international partners, including the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany.
The event is co-sponsored by the GCRI and the Delegation of the European Union to the US.
