Greater co-operation with EUREKA, report recommends
A high-level Horizon 2020 panel has encouraged building closer ties between the European Commission and EUREKA.
The report by the Horizon 2020 advisory group on international co-operation identified three major challenges in international co-operation, namely enhancing EU international R&I collaboration; mainstreaming international co-operation across the whole of the framework programme; and the difficulties emerging third countries have in participating in Horizon 2020, particularly in regards to funding. The report describes how closer co-operation with EUREKA would “strengthen SME involvement and focus on innovation”.
The report has prompted EUREKA, which also oversees the EU’s Eurostars 2 programme, to increase its international co-operation related activities and open up new gateways for firms based in Europe to gain access to external markets across the world. The body is also working more closely with the European Commission regarding the internationalisation of Horizon 2020.
