Indian university joins EU research project
A major university in India has joined the EU’s Networking and Mobility Actions for Sustainable Technology and Environment (NAMASTE). The scheme aims to boost bilateral co-operation in education and research between the EU and the world’s largest democracy.
Assam University in Silchar, the state of Assam, north-eastern India, signed the agreement with Brussels in an effort to increase political, cultural and economic relations. The NAMASTE project aims to encourage international collaboration between universities in India as well as reinforce existing co-operation exchanges between EU universities and Indian high education institutions.
Speaking to The Assam Tribune about the co-operation, Professor Somnath Dasguptam, vice chancellor of Assam University, said: “We got the confirmation news of the venture and now are preparing with our proposals. I am hopeful we will be ready by September.”
The project will establish an innovative framework to encourage staff, students and post-doc researchers to develop their skillset and undergo training in key areas of study. The scheme will also give Indian students more opportunities to study at various EU higher education institutions.
Twenty universities are involved in NAMASTE, including eight from EU member states and 12 from India.
