Moedas concludes visit to Israel and Palestine
Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, will today conclude his official visit to Israel and Palestine.
Over the course of his visit, which began on Sunday 10 January, Moedas has met with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin; Minister of Science, Technology and Space Ofir Akunis; Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Economy Avi Hasson; head of the Planning and Budget Committee of the Council of Higher Education Professor Yaffa Zilbershats; and key Israeli entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
He has also visited the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Hebrew University, Mobileye Vision Technologies and Jerusalem Venture Partners, as well as participating in a seminar on research, science and innovation matters at the National Institute for Education Training in the Palestinian city of Ramallah.
In June 2014, Israel and the EU signed an agreement associating Israel to Horizon 2020. The agreement provides Israeli researchers, universities and companies with full access to Horizon 2020, which is today the leading source of competitive public funding for research in Israel. Israeli participants have already received €155m in signed grant agreements with 283 participations, including 62 European Research Council grants.
