In 1857, the founders of the ‘Pfalzklinikum’ built a treatment centre in the idyllic countryside of the southern Palatinate for people dealing with mental health issues. Their idea was to remove patients from the stresses and adversity of their everyday lives by locating a high quality treatment facility in a beautiful and peaceful environment. They reasoned that, in such a setting, people facing mental health challenges could most effectively receive treatment.
