Horizon 2020 welcomed by Intel Labs
Intel Labs Europe has said it welcomes the opportunity that Horizon 2020 presents. They announced they are excited about the prospect of further collaborations that will help realise, through knowledge creation, people capability and capacity building, the programme’s objectives.
Martin Curley, vice president and director of Intel Labs Europe, said: “Horizon 2020 represents a paradigm shift in European research funding and is a massive opportunity to turbocharge the European Innovation ecosystem. The increased focus on helping accelerate high potential innovations to market will help European industry as well as increase the return on investment for the broader European community. Intel looks forward in engaging in the programme and supporting this vision for Europe.”
Intel has been an active and constant player throughout the Seventh Framework Programme, having engaged in a number of collaborative projects with hundreds of European industry and academic partners. The range of collaborative research and innovation involved has been extensive. This includes future cloud computing, mobility, nano-electronics, exascale computing and open source technologies, topics that remain important within Horizon 2020.
The Horizon 2020 work programme has been launched and the first calls for proposals have been opened. The research and innovation programme has an agreed budget of more than €70bn, with a focus on growth and jobs creation in Europe.
Horizon 2020 will support research and innovation across three pillar objectives: excellence in science, industrial leadership and social challenges. The programme focuses on market impact, which will play its part in enabling Europe’s society and economy to be technology-leading, more sustainable and inclusive.
