Lithuanian President and Kroes open event

The ICT2013 conference has opened in Lithuania, the largest ICT event in Europe.

The event, which lasts for three days in Vilnius, will see up to 6,000 global participants attend the conference, including scientists, business leaders and strategists of the digital technology sector. Discussions will focus on issues regarding European ICT policy, RDI programmes and European ICT policy. Insights and future visions will also be shared and new connections for co-operation in ICT business, research, and innovation will be sought. The conference was opened by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda.

The event consists of four main parts: an international conference, an exhibition, meetings to establish connections, and an investor forum. During the ICT2013 conference, an international exhibition will take place at LITEXPO, with 160 organisations expected to participate. They were invited to present the latest products of advanced research, technology, systems, services, and business, which aren’t available on the market yet. Lithuania will present its top ICT projects in a separate area of the exhibition entitled the ‘Lithuanian Village’.

Also taking place are networking sessions for new companies, allowing them to talk to possible new investors, as well as training for companies that are already working or planning to start a business in the ICT sector. Discussions about the direction of the ICT market and investment, focusing on the situation in Central Europe, will also be held. Companies will find out how to attract risk capital investors into the ICT business and corporate investors will share their experiences.

The event is taking place as part of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
