Mobile app receives EU funding boost
Welsh Finance Minister Jane Hutt has announced a £500,000 (~€580,666) EU funding boost for a project which is helping Welsh businesses develop emerging mobile technologies.
The Centre of Excellence in Mobile Applications and Services (CEMAS), based at the University of South Wales, will receive the support from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government to further develop its support for innovative Welsh SMEs. The announcement was made during Hutt’s visit to the Sports and Mobile 2013 event hosted by CEMAS and creative digital agency, Sequence, at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium.
The minister said: “We are committed to helping Welsh companies exploit new technologies and drive forward the digital economy. I am pleased that through our successful management of EU funds we have been able to support more businesses to innovate and seize new opportunities which, in turn, enable them to grow and access new markets.”
Hutt witnessed the latest developments in sports-related mobile phone applications, including the British and Irish Lions’ official tour app, developed by Sequence.
CEMAS was set up in 2011 and has supported 45 SMEs and created over 20 apps.
