ECSEL selects innovation projects for national funding

The Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership (ECSEL) Joint Undertaking (JU) has announced it has selected 12 projects to receive funding following its 2014 calls.

A total of €300m of national funding will be granted to 12 proposals according to the decision of the public authorities board of the JU. The board comprises representatives of the ECSEL participating states as well as the European Commission. The total eligible costs of the proposals selected approach €710m.

Speaking about awarding of funding, ECSEL JU executive director, Andreas Wild, said: “The remarkable spirit of collaboration of all stakeholders, including the European Commission, the participating states, and last but not least the private members and their affiliates, has enabled the ECSEL JU to successfully launch and execute two calls for proposals contributing to the competitiveness and sustainability of the European ecosystem in this field.

“In addition, it merged the former ENIAC and ARTEMIS Joint Undertakings and included activities of the European Technology Platform on Smart System Integration, EPoSS, all this in the short time since its inception on 27 June 2014.”

The proposals selected for funding address, in equal number, both research and innovation actions (RIA) and innovation actions (IA) differing through their Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). RIAs are mainly focused on lower TRL and IA on higher TRL. The detailed evaluation results will be notified to all project co-ordinators in the coming weeks.
