SPIE details 2016 event
Research leaders will give keynote talks on photonics, optics, lasers and micro/nanotechnologies at a major conference in Brussels in 2016.
SPIE Photonics Europe 2016 will run between 4-7 April and include individual conferences on metamaterials, nanophotonics, biophotonics, optical sensing, photonic fibres and laser technologies. A new conference on quantum technologies is also being introduced, along with a workshop on graphene materials. Around 1,200 technical talks are scheduled to take place.
Speaking ahead of the event, SPIE fellow Professor Francis Berghmans said: “I am convinced that this fourth edition of SPIE Photonics Europe 2016 in Brussels will again be the place to meet for academia and industry, and a unique forum for building on the tremendous success of the Year of Light 2015.”
The event includes the participation of the University of Glasgow’s Miles Padgett and Wolfgang Boch, head of the European Commission’s photonics unit. Also expected to address delegates is Wolfgang Sandner of the Technische Universität Berlin and the Extreme Light Infrastructure Delivery Consortium International Association; Ferenc Krausz of the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics; and Michael Liehr of the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
Meanwhile, a two-day exhibition will showcase the latest equipment from the industry’s leading suppliers of optical components, lasers, fibre optics, detectors, sensors, cameras and other instrumentation for optics and photonics. In addition, a full day of industry-focused presentations are also scheduled, including talks providing updates on Horizon 2020, major EU-funded projects, strategies for successful commercialisation and the global photonics market.
The event is supported by organisations from across Europe and sponsored by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The event will take place at the Square Brussels Meeting Centre and full details can be found here.
