Ireland prepares to welcome EuroNanoForum 2013
The sixth biannual conference on nanotechnology in Europe will open tomorrow in Dublin, Ireland.
EuroNanoForum 2013 will gather together experts and decision-makers from the nanotechnology community and is the largest nanotechnology conference in Europe. The event will focus on the impact of nanotechnology in improving people’s lives, especially in the key societal sectors such as health, energy and environment. Discussions are also expected to focus on the economic and technological impact of nanotechnologies on European growth. The event coincides with the Nanotech Europe exhibition and Nanoweek Ireland.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Herbert von Bose, director of Industrial Technologies, DG, said: “The conference showcases innovation as a driver of economic growth. New technologies arising from nanoscience and their applications are presented and potential new end products are discussed.”
Nanotechnology has been highlighted as one of Europe’s Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) and will feature as one of the research priorities under the Industrial Leadership pillar of Horizon 2020. Nanotechnology is also expected to play a role in helping to resolve some of the objectives in the Societal Challenges pillar of the research and innovation Framework Programme.
The conference will showcase nanotechnology innovations to 1,200 delegates from 50 countries with high profile speakers from industry, government and research, including Shell, Nokia Research Laboratories, Intel, Philips Healthcare and the Max-Planck Institute. The event will also provide a platform for innovative demos and prototypes of nanotechnologies to delegates and media.
Pan European Networks is an official media partner to EuroNanoForum 2013 and will covering the conference’s progress online. We will also be featuring interviews with delegates in the next edition of ‘Pan European Networks: Science & Technology’.
