The Crown Estate
The Crown Estate comprises an £8bn property portfolio, which is managed for the benefit of the nation. The Energy and Infrastructure portfolio includes almost all the entire seabed out to the 12 nautical mile territorial limit and the rights to explore and utilise the natural resources of the UK continental shelf (excluding the hydrocarbons).
Climate changes means that how, and where, we produce energy is changing. This challenge has placed The Crown Estate at the forefront of the world’s biggest clean energy project including offshore wind, wave and tidal, and CO2 transport and storage. We are working with regulatory agencies to facilitate deployment of large scale non-commercial CCS demonstration projects during the next five to ten years and are already preparing ourselves for the future beyond these first projects.
