Cambridge and Warsaw share funds for new research centre
The University of Cambridge, UK, and the University of Warsaw, Poland, have announced they are to develop a collaborative research centre with the assistance of Horizon 2020 funds.
The universities will receive between €15-20m from now until 2020 for the new centre of excellence. In comments carried on the Polskie Radio website, the rector of the University of Warsaw says research by the two universities at the base will be of the “highest levels”.
“We want to create a unit which will train students and young researchers in the areas of enterprise and help them to set up firms which will be using the best ideas and technology,” says Professor Marcin Pałys. “It will be a place where conditions will be favourable to the development of innovative ideas.”
The universities already co-operate in the research areas of biotechnology and genetics, and hope to continue collaborating at the centre of excellence after the end of the decade, when Horizon 2020 will officially conclude.
