CSA remains scrapped, says Commission
An EU spokesperson has confirmed that the post of Chief Scientific Advisor to the President of the European Commission will not be reinstated, despite indications to the contrary last week.
Speaking to Chemistry World, European Commission spokesperson Natasha Bertaud said that the EU institution had not changed its mind and the CSA post has still been cut.
Last week, at a meeting of the European Conservatives & Reformists in Strasbourg, European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans appeared to confirm the position would be making a return, agreeing with Vicky Ford MEP that a promise to keep the post would be honoured.
The European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, has announced he will be investigating new avenues of receiving impartial scientific guidance over the next few months and will report his findings to Jean-Claude Juncker by the summer.
