Geoghegan-Quinn delivers keynote at Irish science teachers’ event
Màire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, has delivered the keynote address at the Irish Science Teachers’ Association (ISTA) annual conference in Galway.
The commissioner spoke to delegates at the National University of Ireland about the importance of ‘inspiring science from Ireland’s Silicon Valley’. The event ran from 11-13 April and featured the launch of the Hyland Report. Áine Hyland compiled the report, entitled ‘The design of Leaving Certificate science syllabi in Ireland: an international comparison’ specifically for the conference.
Other speakers at the conference included Professor David Grayson, who gave a report on ‘Life Without Chemistry?’, and Dr Mark Foley, who spoke about ‘The Physics of Cancer’. Professor Martyn Poliakoff delivered a presentation entitled ‘From Test Tube to YouTube’.
