Postponed Horizon prizes to accept bids from July
The European Commission has announced that the ‘Breaking the optical transmission barriers’ and ‘Collaborative sharing of spectrum’ Horizon prizes will begin accepting applications from next month.
The two Horizon prizes were due to begin accepting applications from 28 May, yet were postponed to allow ‘alignment with the cornerstone event on network technologies ‘European Conference on Networks and Communications 2015’. The Commission hopes the new date will allow ‘a stronger outreach’ to the targeted research community. Proposals can now be submitted from 2 July 2015.
Each of these two ‘challenge’ prizes is worth €500,000 and both sit under the Industrial Leadership pillar. There are currently five prizes launched under Horizon 2020, covering the sectors of health, digital technology and the environment. The objective is to encourage innovation and develop a solution to a specific challenge that European citizens face.
