“Innovation change necessary”, says Salmelin
This year’s Open Innovation 2.0 conference has opened in Dublin, Ireland, with a senior advisor to the European Commission calling for innovation change.
Speaking to delegates in the opening session, Bror Salmelin, advisor on innovation systems at DG Communication Networks, Contents and Technology, European Commission, outlined the need for new external sources of innovation and how “paradigm change” can be “real”.
Delegates also heard from Professor Martin Curley, vice-president of Intel Corporation and director of Intel Labs Europe, who drew attention to the progress made since the announcement of the Dublin Declaration following last year’s event. He spoke about how the Irish capital was becoming “the most sensored city in the world” and how 93% of Dubliners were positive towards the city engaging in innovation. The survey was carried out at the Tech Showcase, which took place alongside the 2013 Open Innovation 2.0 conference and attracted over 2,000 visitors.
The one-day conference is taking place at The Convention Centre Dublin and is being attended by Horizon 2020 Projects.
