March agenda announced for ITRE Committee
Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) will centre their discussions on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) at a meeting later this month.
The meeting will take place In Brussels between 23 and 24 March, and starts with a discussion including European Commission Vice-President for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, on the implementation of the Energy Union Strategy. Focus will then turn to the commercial dissemination of Earth observation satellite data and green growth opportunities for SMEs.
The second day sees the committee debate recommendations to the European Commission on TTIP. The discussion will see multiple MEPs from across the different European Parliamentary groupings make their voices heard. Through the Committee on International Trade is responsible for the legislation, though a total of 14 parliamentary committees are giving their opinion. Members will then vote on the recommendations to be put forward by the ITRE Committee on the legislation.
Votes on other pieces of legislation passing through the committee will also take place. Discussions will then be held regarding the EFSI, as well as the draft amending budget for financing the fund. The ITRE Committee is also giving an opinion on both pieces of legislation.
Attention will then then turn towards the environment, opening with an exchange of views with European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete, on upcoming energy and climate policy measures. A debate will then be held on resource efficiency and moving towards a circular economy in Europe.
