Funds for climate change dating
A Romanian researcher has secured a prestigious grant from the European Research Council.
Alida Iulia Gabor from the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, the country’s second city, will use the €1.5m grant to help increase the accuracy in dating the ice ages, as well as global warming periods, from 2.5 million years ago up to the present day using a new technique.
The scientist will investigate past climate change in order to assist evaluations of present trends. The new approach will evaluate special soil samples from across the Earth whilst bringing together various optic and spectroscopic techniques.
The European Research Council has a budget of just over €13bn under Horizon 2020.
