New European life sciences group launched
Ten life sciences institutes have launched a new alliance to help encourage collaboration in the industry, and provide a single voice in Europe and during Horizon 2020. The ‘EU-Life’ group was launched at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain.
Speaking about the new co-operation agreement to ScienceInsider, co-founder Luis Serrano, director of CRG, said: “All of us together, we can really try to make something powerful,” adding “In Europe, there are institutes which are comparable in quality and success to the best American institutes.”
Other members of the consortium also include Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Germany; the European Institute of Oncology in Italy; the Central European Institute of Technology in the Czech Republic; and the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland, amongst others. It is hoped that the group will promote the importance of co-operation to compete on the world stage.
The alliance hopes to increase standards in the industry and assist in educational training. The group is also calling for an increased budget for the European Research Council.
