Climate change event to be held in Brussels
The European Commission Directorate-General for Research & Innovation has organised a half day event on 6 May in Brussels which will bring together policy makers, key stakeholders from the private sector, civil society representatives, scientists, advisors and high level representatives from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
They will present the key findings of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report (AR5) on climate change adaptation and mitigation, discuss their implications for policy making and for economic and societal sectors, while identifying challenges and opportunities for the future.
European Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, will open the event with a presentation on ‘Research and Innovation for Climate Change’. High level representatives from the IPCC, including Vice-Chair Jean-Pascal van Ypersele and IPCC Co-Chair WG III Ottmar Edenhofer, will provide key note speeches and present the key messages from the AR5 WG II and WG III reports.
The opening session will be followed by a panel discussion, which will include the Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, the Commissioner for International Co-operation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva, representatives of the business sector, and experts from international organisations.
