Grant for hydraulic turbine
Horizon 2020 is backing the development of new wind turbine technology.
The project consortium, comprising Tecnoturbines, based in Catalonia, and the Madrid-based engineering firm Sendekia, has received a grant of €1m to create and launch the new hydraulic turbine. The turbine has the goal of generating up to 35% more electrical energy than traditional ones.
The venture is being co-ordinated by Tecnoturbines, which specialises in the development of hydraulic turbines. The project has a total budget of €1.5m.
Jaime Lledó, founder of Tecnoturbines, commented that the funding award “endorses the viability and potential of our project”. He said: “Our proposal involves developing a turbine that produces electricity in variable hydraulic conditions in terms of flow and pressure, which is a very common scenario due to the seasonal nature of the water resources available.”
Tecnoturbines has two main shareholders: KIC InnoEnergy, a knowledge and innovation community of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology, and Fluidra Accelera, the acceleration programme for start-ups from the multinational Fluidra group, which specialises in the development of applications promoting the sustainable use of water.
