Energy socket innovation wins KIC award
KIC InnoEnergy has announced a company behind a plug and play solar energy system has won its second annual Iberia Award.
BeON Energy’s ‘Micro 0’ innovation can be plugged directly into any wall socket and allows users to produce their own energy whilst still being connected to the grid. Consequently, anyone with a wall socket and the aid of ‘Micro 0’ can create their own solar energy system in less than 30 minutes.
BeOn Energy was presented with the award and an €18,000 prize on Wednesday at a grand final held at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The competition aims to find the best potential sustainable energy start-ups that will have biggest social and environmental impact in Spain and Portugal. The nominees were judged by a jury comprising experts in the entrepreneurship field.
BeON Energy will also be invited to take part in the KIC InnoEnergy Highway®, a scheme that seeks to transform business ideas into commercial reality.
Congratulating BeON Energy on their win, Josep-Miquel Torregrosa, business creation officer at KIC InnoEnergy Iberia, said: “BeOn Energy is a worthy winner of what was an extremely hotly-contested competition, with many game-changing ideas entered.
“This competition gives a platform for ideas which may otherwise have gone undiscovered – the creation of innovative sustainable energy start-ups in Iberia is vital to help the region to become economically and environmentally sustainable.”
Second place was awarded to Ampere Energy, which won €5,000 and will receive mentoring sessions from KIC InnoEnergy, whilst third place went to Eneida, which won €2,000. Over 62 start-ups submitted their innovation to the competition, with ideas coming from across the sustainable energy field, including energy storage, urban mobility, and energy efficiency in buildings, smart grids, solar and smart cities.
