Research council launches humanities film
A new film has been launched on arts and humanities in the European Research Area (ERA).
The video is produced by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) in the UK and focuses on the work of HERA, Humanities in the European Research Area. HERA is a partnership between 21 Humanities Research Councils in Europe in addition to the European Science Foundation. The partnership aims to raise the profile of humanities in the ERA and European Commission framework programmes.
The seven-minute film is introduced by Professor Mark Llewellyn, director of research at the AHRC, and includes an interview with Professor Sean Ryder, chair of the HERA Network Board, who emphasises the importance of international collaboration between European researchers in humanities.
The video also looks at several projects funded under the first HERA Joint Research Programme (HERA JRP) and how research can assist policy makers, scientists and the general public to tackle the challenges of today’s society. The HERA JRP, launched in 2009, funded 19 projects in two areas entitled: ‘Cultural Dynamics: Inheritance and Identity’ and ‘Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation’.
The film will examine how the research tackles social, cultural, political and ethical developments and how it is generating new knowledge that helps enable policy makers to interpret the challenges of a changing world.
