Clean Sky Forum targets new technology
The Clean Sky (CS) Forum has taken place in Brussels, where an award ceremony for the three 2015 Best Clean Sky Projects were announced.
The one-day event, entitled ‘Breaking New Ground in Technologies, Partnerships and Innovation Chains’, took place on 17 March 2015 at ‘The Hotel’ in the Belgian capital. The conference included contributions from Clean Sky governing board chairman and Rolls-Royce chief technology officer Richard Parker, the deputy director general of DG Research and Innovation in the European Commission, Rudolf Strohmeier, and the executive director of the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking, Eric Dautriat.
The Joint Technology Initiative also drew attention to successful examples of CS projects. The 20 shortlisted candidates for the 2015 ‘Best Clean Sky Projects’ were drawn from the different integrated technology demonstrator and technology evaluator projects. The first prize went to the STARLET Project, a low Technology Readiness Level project that develops and investigates new concepts of fluidic devices dedicated to active control of aerodynamic loads on aircraft wings through computational fluid dynamics simulations and wind tunnel tests. The project is realised by a consortium led by the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw, Poland.
The day brought together key stakeholders in the aeronautics and aviation industries. Panel discussions explored different partnership opportunities, assessed the aircraft of the future, and its journey from the test bench to the market. The opportunities for sustainable aviation and the global challenges were also discussed.
