Smart Cities Course offers insight

Participating students at the Smart Cities Course said it offered a great insight into the energy and smart grid market.

Last month, all KIC InnoEnergy Master School students were invited to live and breathe the urban energy ecosystem in Leuven, Belgium. The Smart Cities course prepared the first year KIC InnoEnergy master students for challenges they will face in reaching the goals of a smart city. Speakers closely involved in large scale projects shared their knowledge and students undertook a business orientated assignment based on an on-going demonstration project.

Christophe Meyers, who attended the course, said: “What I take from the seminar, is that Smart City solutions are not as difficult as one imagines they are to implement. The point being that all resources are out there, but dispersed. Cities need to open up their data, citizens should not be afraid to express their ideas. Smart Cities is a lot about a change of mentality; until now things happened top-down, but now it is the reverse direction.”
